Abstract

Past research indicates that anxiety is associated with indecisiveness using measures such as the Iowa Gambling Task (Miu et al., 2008). Research has yet to explore the specific relationship between trait anxiety using the state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI) (Spielberger, 1983) and general indecisiveness using the revised indecisiveness scale (Rassin et al., 2006). Research shows that high levels of trait anxiety, a persistent form of anxiety, have been linked to indecisiveness (Lauderdale et al., 2019). Also, research has found that aversive indecisiveness, emotional discomfort experienced when making a decision, predicts symptoms of anxiety over avoidant indecisiveness, delaying or avoiding making a decision (Lauderdale et al., 2018). Less is known about indecisiveness and trait anxiety among college students. We hypothesized that individuals with higher trait anxiety scores would report higher indecisiveness. Additionally, we hypothesized that individuals with higher anxiety scores would also score higher on aversive indecisiveness than avoidant indecisiveness. Lastly, we hypothesized that individuals diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) will have higher indecisiveness scores compared to those without GAD. Findings will be shared at the research symposium.
