OTD Capstone Projects
Abstract
This doctoral capstone was completed through a partnership with Neuro Therapy Nashville. Neuro Therapy Nashville (NTN) is an outpatient interdisciplinary clinic that provides services to brain injury survivors including stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s, etc. Their mission is work in collaboration with patients to regain as much normal function as possible and return to better, more productive lives through a positive, hopeful and expectant environment. The primary purpose of this project was to create and develop three different programs to provide respite and relief for the brain injury survivors and their caregivers. The process of the project involved collaboration with patients, community stakeholders, Belmont staff and NTN staff as well as research and content development for the different programs. The outcomes of the project including developing a Facebook group resource to connect families for respite relief. The second respite related project included content for a weekend respite program for brain injury survivors and their families. Some of the content included activities, groups and presentations fit for those who have sustained a neurological injury. Finally, a stretch lab was designed and developed to perform passive stretching to reduce tone/spasticity and pain for those who have a sustained neurological injury.
