I want to thank all the students, staff, faculty and trustees from Belmont University who have worked to prepare this devotional guide. We live, work and learn together. It is our hope that this guide adds richness and joy to the Christmas season and leads each reader closer to the Coming Christ. Advent is an ancient celebration of the Church that focuses on the way God once came in Christ and continues to come to us through the Holy Spirit. It also anticipates the day when Jesus Christ returns in glory. Even though much of our anticipation revolves around the gifts that we might receive, Advent is a way that we can focus on the gift of Jesus that came and is coming again. After a particularly difficult year, we are more than ever in need of the Coming Christ. This guide has instructions for daily devotions during this season. You are encouraged to read scripture, the brief devotion and pray each day as you prepare your heart for Christmas. I am grateful to everyone who has contributed to the guide. I offer my gratitude to Dan McAlexander, the Provost of Belmont University, for his support of this project. Dan Johnson, Associate Professor of Art, deserves a special thanks for his cover design and publication of the guide. I also especially thank Vernona Elliott, Office Manager for the School of Religion. She has made this project come to reality by preparing all of the text for this guide. May the grace and peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ enter your life this Advent season. May you know joy in all the fullness! Blessings, Dr. Darrell Gwaltney Dean, School of Religion
