OTD Capstone Projects
Abstract
This capstone project explored the role of occupational therapy in promoting participation and inclusion through adaptive dance at MOVE Inclusive Dance. The project focused on developing and implementing the mOTivate Movement initiative, which emphasized community outreach, education, and advocacy for individuals with diverse abilities. Interventions included leading adaptive dance classes, creating educational materials, and conducting a pre- and post-survey to assess staff's understanding of dance as a therapeutic occupation. Results indicated increased awareness of the therapeutic benefits of dance and the role of occupational therapy in inclusive settings. This project highlights the value of creative, occupation-based interventions in fostering social participation, self-expression, and overall well-being. Future implications include expanding programming and strengthening community partnerships to support inclusive opportunities.
