OTD Capstone Projects
Abstract
This capstone project, Exploring Occupational Therapy’s Role in Strength and Conditioning Training and How it Supports Activities of Daily Living, was competed through Innate Performance strength and conditioning gym and focused on the impacts of exercise on performance of daily activities. This project aimed to explore and educate stakeholders on occupational therapy (OT) and relevant health topics by writing blogs, creating an educational handout, comparing OT’s role with personal training, and writing a professional manuscript for current OT practitioners. Deliverables included educational materials in the gym and on Innate’s online platform, alongside an OT presentation for trainers to understand the role of OT and how they can play a part in promoting independence in ADLs. Materials were prepared for dissemination to trainers and clients. Outcomes included online blog posts for marketing purposes and promotion of healthy living, workflow for future research-based blog posts, in-service for Innate Performance staff, and a manuscript for OT Practice magazine. This project aligns with Innate Performance’s mission of helping people realize their true potential and overcome adversity via pain, or any sort of adversity they may face in the gym.
