OTD Capstone Projects
Abstract
This doctoral capstone project represents a collaborative effort with Rock Steady Boxing (RSB), an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). Many individuals with PD experience fine motor deficits which highlights the importance of addressing these challenges. The primary objective of this project is to identify and address such deficits among participants at RSB Music City and Franklin through the development of occupation-based fine motor activities. Qualitative surveys were utilized to understand participants' satisfaction with their fine motor abilities and the impact on quality of life. The outcome of this project is a set of occupation-based fine motor activities designed to target key areas such as handwriting, buttoning, self-feeding, and cutting food. Additionally, the project addresses general fine motor exercises and provides insights into how PD affects fine motor skills. Deliverables are accessible through various channels. These include informational handouts distributed via weekly newsletters and available on the members-only website, and conveniently accessible through a QR code in the resource binder at RSB Franklin. Moreover, the RSB owner possesses access to a comprehensive Google doc containing all relevant handouts for future use and dissemination.
