OTD Capstone Projects

Abstract

This doctoral capstone project was completed through partnership with GiGi’s Playhouse - Nashville, a non-profit organization offering free programming and services to individuals of all ages with Down syndrome and their families. The focus of this project was to develop and implement programming for GiGi Achievers, an adult education program, in the areas of money management, physical health and wellness, cooking, communication, and daily life skills. The results were physical and digital materials to be used for future adult education programming modified to address participant and caregiver feedback. A curriculum for GiGi Achievers was also developed as a guideline for future program leaders. Other project activities included leading Playhouse Pals, a program for school-aged children aiming to address motor, social, language, and self-help skill development through play and peer interaction.
