OTD Capstone Projects

Abstract

This doctoral capstone project was completed in partnership with Spiral Spine Pilates (SSP). SSP is a studio that specializes in supporting the scoliosis community, offering a range of resources for everyone, no matter their age, curve, or where they are in their journey. SSP utilizes evidence-based methods to lengthen and strengthen the body while empowering clients to live happily, pain-free, and fearlessly. The objective of this project was to expand the positive impact SSP can make on promoting wellness and functional independence for its clients through the development and refinement of resources. This included increasing the usability and accessibility of existing resources like their app, Scoliometer by Spiral Spine, and disseminating educational resources across free online platforms like Instagram and YouTube to bridge educational gaps. Additionally, educational networking packets were mailed to 50+ providers nationally, yielding an increase in interprofessional communication and collaboration leading to increased credibility and expanded client support systems. The exploration and establishment of infrastructure like streaming services and merchandise creation, marketing, and sales were conducted to promote client retention and program longevity. Finally, through an occupational therapy perspective, changes and adaptations were implemented into the physical studio space to increase workplace flow, efficiency, and safety.
