Description
While much time has been spent on the topic of the achievements and challenges that first brought a human being to the surface of the moon and returned him home safely, writers have long been challenged to understand the man who first took that momentous first step. Based on James Hansen’s authorized biography of Neil Armstrong, First Man the film tackles its subject with a quiet dignity suited to a private man whose steady nature made him the right choice for the mission but a less satisfying figure in some ways for being catapulted into the public eye. In addition to the discussion that will follow a viewing of the movie which was nominated for many awards, next week students will have the opportunity to hear James Hansen speak at the Humanities Symposium as well as listen to some of the Armstrong tapes on which Hansen based his book.
