Description
“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”…looking at the pictures from the Apollo missions, one could be forgiven for thinking those words were literally true as well—it was all about men, and white men at that. This film, based on Margot Shetterly’s non-fiction book, reminds viewers of the degree to which that wasn’t true: behind the scene, women “computers” did the math without which NASA would never have made it to the moon. This film, however, focuses on the discrimination faced by the African American women who played a vital role in that mission, especially Katherine Goble who, through her work with NASA would go on to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Discussion to follow.
