Abstract
I am an artist and heretic, lover, sinner, advocate and defender of life with a penchant for self flagellation and vanity. I thrive in extreme conditions, like a deep sea worm in a thermal vent. I make images: scenes or symbols, as an offering to the world. I'm interested in myths, the Black femme experience and all it entails, magic, polarity, politics and the underbelly of the world. For me, my work is metanoia, and I can only hope to inspire such thought within the viewer. Through the use of symbolism I attempted to recreate the outer world and my inner world, a simultaneous narrative, a moire pattern of fate, destiny, sorrows and pain. Currently I’m inspired by Kara Walker, Kiki Smith and Aaron Douglas, who’s work fall in a similar vein of storytelling.
