OTD Capstone Projects

Abstract

The New Beginnings Center is a nonprofit organization that offers a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle including instruction regarding nutrition and exercise training. They offer a 12-week program for women of all backgrounds 18+ that empowers women through fitness and lifestyle changes. They have also recently started a program called Iron souls which offers the same education and empowerment for teenagers. The objective for this project was to provide the most updated review of literature regarding the interrelationship between hormones and health. This included how reproductive hormones influenced energy levels, losing weight, and building muscle. Additionally, the relationship between hormones and consuming certain foods and nutrients was examined. Education was provided to the organization and disseminated into sections for their membership site, so participants of the program have access to this information as well. Furthermore, logs were created and provided to help track how certain behaviors, such as eating certain foods and completing certain exercises, are affecting their bodies to increase self-awareness, and become more in tune to their own bodies. Additional content was provided to help support the participants build healthy, long-lasting habits. Content included recipes and mindfulness exercises that can be implemented into everyday life. These resources were given to the organization and were made available through multiple social media and their membership site.
