Description

Sleeping Beauty project:

The ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty is very elegant and traditional; this project took the more chaotic elements of that story. Using a pai of pointe ballet shoes, it was decorated and collaged with photos and text from the ballet and the story itself.

The miniature details bring the viewer to get closer to inspect the small scale images presented. The images used were inspired by the traditional fairy tales, illustrations, performances and floral designs that come to mind when thinking of “Sleeping Beauty.” All areas of the slipper have been arranged to be viewed; the outsides, the top and inside sole, all carry out elements throughout. This phsical mixed media allowed tangible aspects and compelled myself to focus on the assembly for the limited provided space.

Presented as the finished product, this pair of shoes both incorporates a basic need of a dancer, the shoes, and a visual art of the narrative. This pair of shoes will be displayed on top of a pedestal, to be seen from all sides, in the lobby of TPAC.
