Abstract
42 million speeding tickets are given each year in the US on average. People often do not think about speeding tickets until they have to deal with them, and then they tend to question the methods, fairness and morality of the way in which tickets are distributed. In this project, we dove into a public dataset published by the government, directly from the State of New York, to find out patterns and tendencies with certain categories in mind. Using python, a series of analyses were performed in order to determine, examine and interpret patterns of different discrepancies within the dataset. Despite the wide-ranging dataset, we will be focusing our analysis on four main subjects and they are as follows: (1) gender, (2) year, (3) month given, and (4) state of license plate.
