Summary
First year college students face one of the biggest difficulties in college and it isn't academic related. It is sleep. Being a first year college student at a new school and starting a whole new life comes with immense pressure. It was hypothesized that first year students reported to having poor sleep quality and poor sleep duration causing lowered GPAs compared to the well rested students. This challenge can cause daytime sleepiness & less than the ideal sleep duration recommended to someone of the college age. While transitioning into college is a stress and exciting time for people, there is the freedom of social obligations that can affect sleep, late night studying, jobs/internships, and personal life that can be a major factor on keeping you away from a healthy sleep schedule. Being able to understand the relationship between sleep and academics is very important to a young student learning how to manage the new life they have at college while also focusing on having a healthy sleep schedule with good grades.
