Summary

Smoking has increased across all age groups over time, alongside the emergence of new nicotine and tobacco products. These products take many forms, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, and chewing tobacco. Despite their differences, all share adverse effects on users’ health and daily lifestyle. Previous research has examined the effects of nicotine on various aspects of physical activity, including endurance, power, and high-intensity exercise, with findings suggesting both positive and negative impacts. However, a gap remains in understanding how different forms of nicotine intake influence physical activity levels. Therefore, this study hypothesizes that e-cigarette users engage in more vigorous physical activity compared to traditional cigarette users. This hypothesis will be tested using the data from the 2021–2023 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
