Summary
On average, a homeless person spends 12 hours a day on their feet (Moles, 2025). The Room in the Inn (RITI) hosts a weekly foot clinic that addresses conditions associated with prolonged standing. The RITI foot clinic needed an updated and efficient orientation for new volunteers. The group produced a step-by-step video for RITI foot clinic to increase volunteer confidence and decrease staff burden. It is anticipated that this video will be distributed to 30-40 volunteers prior to their first service experience in the clinic. The video guides the expectations for the volunteer role. Staff members will spend more time working directly alongside volunteers, serving more individuals each week. Measured outcomes include staff satisfaction assessed through a survey. Future groups could ensure consistency of care by promoting the orientation video to Belmont students, while exploring opportunities to integrate nursing students into the clinic as part of a course credit.
