Summary
We researched the past, present, and future of innovative material use in interior design. The history of these materials were driven by efficiency, adaptability, and new technology. The Industrial Revolution started mass production of steel, cast-iron, and linoleum flooring. Present day products focus similarly but add sustainability to the mix. For example, Biophilic design has taken over commercial interiors by promoting wellness, reducing stress, and enhancing comfort. The future of commercial interiors shifts focus to smart materials and tech infused aesthetics, while keeping sustainability and bio-based products. Beyond, interiors will inspire the circular reuse of materials and products in our environment.
