Summary
This project explores how urban environments shape the daily life, survival strategies, and ecological role of raccoons. Focusing on raccoons as non-human city residents, we examine their habitat use, feeding behaviors, and interactions with humans and other species. Using research articles, we highlight how raccoons adapt to urban spaces by using structures like trees, attics, and storm drains, and by relying on diverse food sources, including human waste. Our findings are presented as a children’s illustrated “day in the life” storybook, combining creative storytelling with urban ecology concepts. Overall, the project emphasizes raccoons’ adaptability and their important role in maintaining ecological balance in urban ecosystems.
