Summary
Educational inequity for learners with intellectual disabilities is an ongoing concern across the United States, and especially in Tennessee. Our project hopes to address this concern proactively by creating literacy and mathematics tutoring lesson plans with the help of MagicSchool AI for use by the Nashville chapter of GiGi’s Playhouse, a national nonprofit that serves learners of all ages with Down Syndrome (DS). GiGi’s focuses on providing free educational and therapeutic programs. Lifelong service is essential to their mission of forming the whole person through research-based support. With the help of MagicSchool AI and support from the physical manipulatives provided to us, we will produce 75 lesson plans to accompany existing tutoring pathways at GiGi’s Playhouse. Working from their “Purposeful Progressions” that focus on practical applications of math and literacy skills that facilitate a lasting spirit of independence. Our goal is that these lesson plans will simplify and streamline the tutoring experience, making it more efficient for volunteers and engaging for students.
