Description
This picture is of the Fantoft Stave Church in Bergen. There are only 28 Stave Churches left in Norway and are an example of early Christianity in the country. Stave Church architecture interested me because early Christians were trying to convert Pagans, so they carved Pagan symbols into the structures. Also, when we visited the Fantoft Stave Church, it had been freshly tarred to preserve the wood. Out of all the pictures I took at the Fantoft Stave Church, this was my favorite, because I think of it as a representation of what the Pagans must have seen while entering the doorways of Stave Churches - daring to dive into an unknown religion and wondering what was on the other side.
