Description

This bridge overlooks a natural phenomenon nick-named The Devil’s Punchbowl. Many of the bridges in this area of Oregon were inspired by the Art Deco movement and New York skyscrapers. I thought the contrast between the man-made bridge and windswept trees behind it was fascinating. The trees along the Pacific Northwest coast lean to one side because of the constant winds that blow in from the water. In any other place these trees might break and die, but in the Pacific Northwest they adapted to withstand the often harsh weather. A bridge is an apt symbol for this program because it connected so many different things: food, industry, nature, climate change, etc. We bridged gaps between subjects in order to create a more complete picture of the World and our place in it.
