Description

Nashville is home to one of the largest expansions of multilingual learners, MLs, in the country. Metro Nashville Public Schools is home to more than 21,000 active English learners and 33 percent of the student population speaks a language other than English at home (MNPS, 2024). The wonderful expansion of MLs requires teachers to enter the classroom prepared to support the cultural and linguistic needs of every student. This session will present an overview of cultures, languages, and home countries that our multilingual neighbors represent. We will also hear from a current teacher candidate about how Belmont's teacher preparation program prepares future teachers to support the unique cultural and linguistic needs of their future students.
