Description
Tied to though not derived from the Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of robotics as proposed in his story collection of the same name, “I, ROBOT” in many ways is simply a detective story set in a future of cybernetic humans and humanoid robots. While the plot is far from original, structured as a typical murder mystery and running counter to Asimov’s rejection of the notion of robots as Frankenstein’s monster in metal form, “I, ROBOT” in addition to being fun, action-adventure sci fi, also raises albeit briefly interesting questions about prejudice, individuality, and responsibility. Film 6 of the Pre-Symposium International Film Series, “Of (Hu)man and Machine,” co-sponsored by the School of Humanities and the Belmont University Film Society. Discussion to follow.
