Description
We generally think of cooking as either a pleasure or a chore; however, there is a long tradition of the most disenfranchised people using food as the only way to resist oppressive powers. Professor Sue Trout will explore how women (slaves, Holocaust victims, domestics) have consistently used cooking to maintain personal sovereignty, communal and cultural identity, and most importantly, a sense of hope.
