“Crises in Higher Education and the Need for Solutions--But What Kind?” The Journal of College and University Law 18/4 (Spring 1992) 621-625. Throughout   America   there   is   a   sense   that   higher   education   is   reaching   a   crossroads.   The   popularity   of   books   such   as   Allan   Bloom's   The   Closing   of   the   American   Mind   and   Dinesh   D'Souza's   Illiberal   Education,   as   well   as   the   reactions   to   those   books,   reflects   this   percep    tion.   It   is   further   reflected   in   polemical   arguments   about   political   correctness   (   PC   )   movements   on   college   campuses.   Numerous   arti    cles   have   reported   various   abuses   in   higher   education:   violations   in   athletic   programs,   actual   or   perceived   misuse   of   government   funds   at   research   universities,   collusion   in   admissions   and   financial   aid   deci    sions,   falsified
