Abstract
How does party polarization influence voter turnout? Recent research indicates a growing ideological divide among voters has caused negative partisanship - partisanship in the form of hostility toward the opposing party rather than affection for one’s own. Research also indicates that social media has a strong effect on voter turnout, arguing that the sharing of political content can mobilize users' spheres of influence. To test the proposition that social media and negative partisanship increase voter turnout, I use a linear regression on data from recent iterations of the American National Election Studies.
