Abstract
This project explores the application of data science in investigating pay disparities among Tennessee state employees. Utilizing a comprehensive dataset acquired from the Data.Nashville.gov website, the research aims to analyze trends, changes, and implications of pay disparities over time. Data science methodologies, including data preprocessing, statistical analysis, and data visualization, are employed to uncover patterns and correlations within the dataset. The project aims to provide insights into the extent and dynamics of pay disparities based on ethnic groups and gender, shedding light on potential factors contributing to these discrepancies. The findings are visually represented using bubble charts, enabling an intuitive and comprehensive understanding of the pay differences. The research emphasizes the importance of addressing pay equity and diversity in the state workforce, with the ultimate goal of informing policy decisions and fostering inclusive work environments. Furthermore, this project seeks to bring awareness to the potential of data science for social good, showcasing how data-driven insights can be leveraged to tackle societal challenges such as inequality and discrimination. By highlighting the significance of data science in addressing pay disparities and advocating for social change, this project contributes to the broader discourse on fairness, equality, and data-driven decision-making in the workplace, laying the groundwork for future endeavors in utilizing data science for positive social impact.
