Summary

The choreographic intent of this piece was to communicate to the audience that isolation is detrimental when it comes to mental health and dealing with strong emotions. I believe that humans were made to connect. Without that connection, we are more prone to suffer. I wanted to stress the importance of finding trust in people and leaning on them, especially during the hardest times. I also wanted to show that everyone goes through their fair share of hardships. Even if their life seems perfect, or they do not have it as bad as you do, it does not mean that they do not need someone to lean on. People truly have the power to help heal others. Sometimes it just takes someone who can catch you when you fall or give you the nudge you need to keep going. I decided to keep this dance as pedestrian as possible while still incorporating contemporary elements to express the emotions I wanted to convey. I intended for the audience to go through the journey with the dancers and realize that the people on stage are no different from them when it comes to being human. Each dancer had their own story, which was intentional because I wanted the audience to connect to at least one dancer’s emotion. The whole meaning of this piece was to inspire others to reach out when they need help, help others in need, and build a community they can lean on.
