Abstract

Hospitality, violence, and the formation of conscience constitute one of those rare topics that has occupied my thoughts since youth. In the Winter of nineteen-eighty-nine and ninety, a cascade of frenetic, revolutionary events ripped through Eastern Europe, transforming the lives of millions of ordinary people, altering the geopolitical power-structures that had been in place for over have a century – the Fall of Communism. The story I want to tell takes place at this moment in world-history and concerns the birth of conscience in the life of a fourteen year-old boy.
