Belmont Humanities Symposium Journal
Abstract
Civility and dialogue travel together, for polite discourse is integral to civil society. Time and again during the 2012 Belmont Humanities Symposium, attendees encountered this relationship and its significance. In conjunction with Belmont University's theme of "E Pluribus Unum: Dialogue in the Digital Age:' the symposium explored its theme of "Civility and Its Discontents" through a week-long series of events-presentations, readings, discussions, a writing workshop, and a community service event-all of them suggesting ways in which our humanity is inextricably tied to civil designs.
