Abstract
I begin a discussion of Legge’s contribution to the invention of Daoism for the West with an event that occurred on April 21, 1873 when Legge visited The Temple of Heaven (Tiantan 天談) in Beijing (a.k.a., Peking) as he was leaving China for the last time.
