Belmont Humanities Symposium Journal

Abstract

Th e idea to create a collective mural to represent the theme of the 2010 Belmont Humanities Symposium emerged when I approached Professors Julseth and Pelaz to discuss their participation in the symposium. In one of our first conversations, Professor Julseth mentioned the possibility of collaborating with artist Jairo Prado. A native of Cali, Colombia, Jairo moved to Nashville, TN in 1984. Given his personal experience as an immigrant, his artistic versatility, and his previous success with communal art projects, we felt Jairo would be a wonderful leader and source of inspiration as we moved forward with our project.
