Abstract

Festivals are indigenous to virtually all human cultures. In many parts of the world they provide opportunities for individuals, regardless of class affiliations or social, religious, and political status, to interact with other community members in unified ways. Participants celebrate life in a spirit of joyous extravagance, devotion, unity, and with highly sophisticated imaginative artistry.
