The Relationship Between Personality and Sexual Orientation
Abstract
This study was conducted to find the relationship between personality traits, sexual orientation, and sexual history. It sought to find if personality type and sexual orientation can affect the number of sexual partners a person may have. The personality scale used was the IPIP-BFM-20 which measured extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and intelligence. The present study focused on conscientiousness, emotional stability, and intelligence as possible moderators of sexual orientation. The participants in this study (N = 768) were given the questionnaire via social media and were asked to rate themselves on a 5-point scale from ‘Not accurate’ to ‘Very accurate’ in regard to personality traits shown in the IPIP-BFM-20. Along with that, they were asked to disclose their sexual orientation. The data is currently being analyzed, and the results will be presented at BURS.
