Summary
Even So is based around the journey of the human psyche through the five stages of grief, and how these phases interact with the character's faith. To understand the character's journey is to understand how I handle my own emotions, as the character is an exaggerated version of myself. This led to the concept of always performing- specifically in the character being aware of “the Programmer”, their presence onstage, and the audience. I am a performer by trade, and have been doing it my entire life. As a result, I am highly aware of how I communicate with people on a daily basis, as well as what I share with others. Emotions wrapped up in my grief are what I tend to shy away from the most, even though that grief is where most of my emotions stem from. I wanted for the path of my faith, and this grief and struggle with God in the midst of trial, to be very aware of itself because of this performance tendency I have. Not only is the character aware of the audience, they are actively attempting to create a different performance than what ends up being the final piece onstage.
