Summary

Isabella Stewart Gardner was one of the most prevalent art and antiquities collectors of the Gilded Age. Her work alongside men like Bernard Berenson, John Singer Sargent, and Henry James helped her build a collector museum unlike anything else in the U.S. at the time. Her bohemian lifestyle and feminist tendencies allowed her to acquire items that had never been brought to the states before, especially by a woman.
