Summary
Our proposal explores the topic of nurse burnout which directly impacts turnover rates, job satisfaction and patient care and quality. Implications to this issue include emotional and physical exhaustion, increased medical errors, poor patient satisfaction and reduced productivity. To combat nurse burnout, we recommend the implementation of a wellness program. We have taken the time to research and outline a potential timeline, budget and plan of action for this wellness program. To increase social support to nurses this program will involve structured, biweekly check-ins with charge nurses, nurse managers and directors. The goal of this program is to counteract the rising negative outcomes in today’s nursing climate. To measure the effectiveness of this program we will evaluate nurse retention rates, patient satisfaction scores, improved staff morale and decreased rates of medical errors.
