Description
Anniversaries are one of the ways we mark and remember the passage of time: this summer marked the 25th anniversary of the release of this iconic Peter Weir film based on a script by Nashville screenwriter, Tom Schulman. The film, which is also being shown in memory of the passing of its star, Robin Williams, awakened interest in the Renaissance idea of Carpe Diem, a poetic trope which demands that we seize the day, that is, live for today, an inspiration for this year’s symposium. The story, set in a private boys’ college preparatory boarding school, also tackles just how difficult that can be when it feels that one’s life is not in one’s own control. Join us for a viewing of the film, with discussion to follow led by Belmont’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.
