Description
From the printing press to the written word, revolutions in communication balance a new world of possibilities with the tensions they create for society. Social media is no exception in today’s digital age. To examine the role of social media and its impacts for civility and discourse, professors from three departments will examine social media in distinct areas. In the interpersonal realm, Kevin Trowbridge will discuss how social media have impacted civility in relational communication. Sybril Bennett will address civility and social media as it pertains to journalism. Finally, Jason Stahl will consider civility and social media amongst citizens as they communicate political dissent. The session will invite the audience to participate in both live and media exchanges.
