Description

In their presentation, “Stories and Thoughts from the Community of Thistle Farms,” Holli Anglin, Thistle Farms’ Managing Director and Katrina Robertson, Thistle Farms’ National Sales Director, will share amazing stories from Thistle Farms and Magdalene House. Magdalene House was founded in 1997 to offer sanctuary free for two years to women who had survived lives of abuse, prostitution and addiction. By 2001 the community realized the necessity of starting a social enterprise so the women could stay off the streets and become economically independent. This journey led to Thistle Farms. It is a journey full of stories of triumph and heart break, all grounded in trying to love the whole world. Thistle Farms has been featured on NPR and other national media as a model for helping women move from the streets back into their communities with grace. Allison Hale will share the remarkable story of the rescue and restoration of women out of prostitution and trafficking risks. Hale, along with a team of Dominican, professional women, runs a safehouse rescue home within the city limits of San Pedro where women can stay for extended periods of time and can access counseling and discipleship as well as job skills training, education, and work as they begin a life of dignity. Part of their work in jewelry making and sewing can be found at: drvision.org and mymercyjewelry.com.
